As electric vehicles (EVs) become smarter and more connected than ever, cybersecurity is emerging as a critical pillar of sustainable and secure mobility. In a bid to raise awareness and spark cross-industry collaboration, Upsight, in partnership with SMU-X, is hosting the ChargedUp: Cybersecurity x EV Showcase at Singapore Management University’s Connexion Boulevard.
This showcase comes at a time when EVs, equipped with smart automation, app connectivity, and digital dashboards, are increasingly compared to smartphones on wheels. With Singapore’s government intensifying EV adoption through Budget 2025 incentives as part of its net-zero ambitions, the cybersecurity of next-generation vehicles is now under the spotlight.
Key Highlights of the ChargedUp Showcase:
- Electric Vehicle Display: Attendees will get up-close with advanced EV models from Tesla and MG, highlighting the latest in automotive technology.
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Live Demo: A unique real-time demonstration where CAKED by Seraphina will bake brownies powered entirely by an EV — showcasing how electric vehicles can serve as mobile energy sources beyond transportation.
- Future-ready Talks: Experts from Tesla and ChargedUp will share insights on the growing risks of EV cyber threats, and the robust measures being taken to safeguard vehicles, charging infrastructure, and user data.
The showcase also serves as a fringe event leading up to ChargedUp: EV Conference & Expo in November 2025, following a successful launch earlier this April.
Cybersecurity in the EV Era
With over 40% of new car sales in Q1 2025 in Singapore being electric, the need for resilient cybersecurity frameworks has become urgent. Globally, concerns are also mounting. At Pwn2Own Automotive 2025 in Tokyo, a Tesla Model Y was reportedly disabled by white-hat hackers, underlining the vulnerability of smart vehicles to cyberattacks.
Tan Khai San, Head of Business Operations at ChargedUp, emphasized the need for widespread EV education: “Many people still don’t know enough about their EVs — that’s an education gap we must address. Cybersecurity is not optional; it’s foundational. We’re honoured to partner with SMU-X to open this critical dialogue.”
As EVs become integral to Singapore’s sustainable transport goals, the ChargedUp Showcase aims to equip consumers, businesses, and policymakers with the knowledge needed to drive the nation toward a smarter, safer, and more resilient electric future.
