Following the successful launch in Québec, Canada’s first-of-its-kind Electrified Vehicle (EV) Battery Recovery Program, EVBatteryRecovery.ca, has officially expanded nationwide. This industry-led initiative marks a significant step forward in environmental sustainability and the development of a national circular economy for end-of-life EV batteries.

Originally launched as a collaboration between leading vehicle manufacturers and Call2Recycle Canada, the program was created to collect, transport, repurpose, remanufacture, or recycle end-of-life batteries from hybrid, plug-in hybrid, all-electric, and fuel cell vehicles that fall outside existing manufacturer-led recovery programs.

A New Era of EV Battery Responsibility

With this expansion, EVBatteryRecovery.ca now offers comprehensive access across all provinces and territories, targeting battery holders not covered by vehicle manufacturers’ in-house programs. The initiative is designed to ensure eligible EV batteries at risk of being improperly disposed of are responsibly managed and their valuable materials recovered.

The program supports:

  • Nationwide access to sustainable EV battery management.
  • A uniform, North America-first national strategy for battery recovery.
  • Enhanced data collection on battery end-of-life trends for future sustainability efforts.
  • Strengthened industry-government dialogue across Canada’s provinces and territories.

Industry Commitment to Circular Economy

The program’s expansion signals a proactive stance from participating automakers who are going beyond regulatory obligations to reduce the environmental impact of their vehicles. Working with Call2Recycle Canada, which brings nearly three decades of battery recovery experience, the program helps foster a responsible, sustainable EV ecosystem.

“This expansion ensures no battery is left behind,” said Jon McQuaid, VP of Marketing and Communications at Call2Recycle. “We’re proud to collaborate with vehicle manufacturers and regulators to give Canadians a safe, efficient way to manage EV batteries at end-of-life.”

Complementing Existing Systems

The national rollout builds on existing manufacturer-led recovery programs that already manage batteries under warranty, recall, or those returned via dealer networks. EVBatteryRecovery.ca fills the gap by offering a solution for all other batteries, ensuring more materials are reused or recycled — instead of ending up in landfills.

The expansion of EVBatteryRecovery.ca sets a new benchmark for responsible resource recovery and reflects Canada’s growing leadership in clean transportation and sustainable manufacturing.
