Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has crossed a landmark 3 lakh cumulative sales for its mid‑size SUV, the Grand Vitara, achieving the feat in a record 32 months since launch—an industry first for the segment.
Announcing the milestone on Monday, Partho Banerjee, Senior Executive Officer (Marketing & Sales), credited buyers for the model’s meteoric rise. “The Grand Vitara has elevated Maruti Suzuki’s standing in the fiercely competitive mid‑SUV space. Hitting three lakh units in barely two and a half years sets a new benchmark for the industry,” he said.
‘Driven by Tech’ campaign unveiled
To commemorate the achievement, MSIL rolled out a new advertising campaign titled “Driven by Tech.” The high‑octane film follows two protagonists—a start‑up technocrat who favours the 1.5‑litre Strong Hybrid variant, and a trail‑blazing entrepreneur who puts the ALLGRIP SELECT 4×4 (6‑speed AT) through its paces. The spot underscores the SUV’s dual personality: urban sophistication and off‑road prowess. (View the TVC here.)
What is powering demand
- Powertrain choice: Strong Hybrid with segment‑leading fuel efficiency and EV‑like silent starts, plus the ALLGRIP SELECT 4×4 for adventure seekers.
- Feature‑rich cabin: 9‑inch SmartPlay Pro+ infotainment with wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay, 360‑degree camera, ventilated seats, panoramic sunroof (now optional on Zeta/Alpha trims) and premium Clarion audio.
- Safety first: Six airbags, ISOFIX anchors, ESP with Hill‑Hold, and 3‑point ELR belts for all occupants are standard across the range.
2025 refresh: more choice, same appeal
The 2025 Grand Vitara update expanded sunroof availability with new Zeta (O), Alpha (O), Zeta+ (O) and Alpha+ (O) variants, while retaining hallmark styling cues such as R17 precision‑cut alloys and LED lighting.
Market impact
Since its launch in September 2022, the Grand Vitara has bolstered Maruti Suzuki’s share of the mid‑SUV segment—long dominated by Korean rivals—while supporting the company’s push into electrified drivetrains ahead of India’s 2030 green‑mobility targets.
With consumer preference tilting toward tech‑laden, fuel‑efficient SUVs, the Grand Vitara’s sales trajectory suggests MSIL’s gamble on hybrid and 4×4 versatility is paying off—driving the “Tech SUV” deeper into the hearts (and garages) of urban India.
