Tata Motors Limited reported total sales of 70,187 units in May 2025 across domestic and international markets, marking an 8.5% year-on-year decline from 76,766 units sold in May 2024. The dip reflects a combination of sluggish performance in key commercial and passenger vehicle segments, despite notable gains in international business and select sub-categories.

Passenger Vehicles (PV)

The passenger vehicle segment, including electric vehicles (EVs), faced an 11% dip, with 41,557 units sold domestically compared to 46,697 units in May 2024. International PV sales rose 28% to 483 units.

Overall PV sales (Domestic + IB) amounted to 42,040 units, also down 11% year-on-year.

Despite the downturn, EV sales showed resilience, recording a 2% growth with 5,685 units sold globally in May 2025, up from 5,558 in May 2024. This includes sales from both Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited.

While Tata Motors experienced a decline in overall sales, the company’s growing traction in the international commercial vehicle segment and steady EV momentum offer positive signs. The performance in coming months will be closely watched amid a dynamic automotive landscape and ongoing transitions toward electrification.
