In a significant step towards supporting India’s transition to electric mobility, Maruti Suzuki India Limited has launched a comprehensive High Voltage Training Program aimed at preparing a skilled workforce for handling electric and hybrid vehicles. The initiative, rolled out under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), is being implemented across 130 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in 24 States and 4 Union Territories.
With an investment of approximately ₹3.9 crore, the program aims to train over 4,100 second-year ITI students annually. It covers crucial aspects such as the fundamentals of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs), safety protocols for high-voltage systems, the use of specialized tools, and system maintenance practices.
Announcing the initiative, Mr. Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, Maruti Suzuki India Limited, emphasized the company’s long-term vision. “We want to maximize adoption of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in the country. One major hurdle in EV adoption is customer confidence in after-sales service. Maruti Suzuki is addressing this by equipping more than 1,500 workshops in 1,000 cities to support BEVs. At the core of this service infrastructure are trained technicians,” he said.
Mr. Bharti highlighted that the program not only benefits Maruti Suzuki’s service network but also empowers students to work across the broader automotive sector. “The high voltage training will be useful for Strong Hybrid cars as well, creating a synergy between both technologies,” he added.
In addition to student training, the program includes ‘train-the-trainer’ sessions for ITI faculty and the provision of advanced tools and equipment to institutes, thereby enhancing the overall quality of technical education in the country.
This move aligns with the Government of India’s vision of achieving carbon net-zero emissions and is expected to play a pivotal role in bolstering public confidence in new-age mobility solutions. As the presence of EVs and HEVs grows in the Indian car parc, initiatives like these are seen as key enablers for faster and smoother adoption.
