Toyota Motor Corporation has announced a significant expansion of its battery electric vehicle (BEV) portfolio with the upcoming launch of the bZ Woodland, a new SUV designed specifically for the North American market. The vehicle will debut at a dedicated launch event hosted by Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), with sales expected to begin in early 2026.
The bZ Woodland reflects Toyota’s ongoing commitment to its multi-pathway approach to carbon neutrality, emphasizing regional product strategies and diverse electrification technologies. The new model will join the existing BEV lineup that includes the bZ4X and TOYOTA C-HR, catering to the growing SUV segment in the U.S.
Designed for the North American Market
The bZ Woodland features a 74.7 kWh lithium-ion battery, enabling an estimated range of 260 miles (based on AWD configuration and EPA testing standards). With advanced features such as battery pre-conditioning for efficient 30-minute rapid charging even in sub-zero temperatures, and compatibility with the North American Charging System (NACS), the vehicle is tailored to the demands of U.S. consumers.
Key specifications include:
- Length: 4,830 mm
- Width: 1,860 mm
- Height: 1,620 mm
- Wheelbase: 2,850 mm
- Cargo Space: 30 cu.ft
Equipped with high-output eAxles on both the front and rear and an evolved control system, the bZ Woodland promises robust performance and enhanced stability, even in off-road conditions.
Global Launch Plans
While North America will be the first to receive the bZ Woodland, a Japanese version — the bZ4X Touring — is slated for launch in spring 2026, following the partial redesign of the bZ4X in the second half of 2025.
Toyota’s Broader Electrification Vision
This launch aligns with Toyota’s broader goal of creating a carbon-neutral society through its multi-pathway strategy, which includes a mix of hybrid, plug-in hybrid, fuel cell, and battery electric vehicles. As BEV adoption gains momentum, especially in North America, Toyota aims to solidify its presence in the segment with region-specific offerings like the bZ Woodland. (Note: All specifications and performance figures are development targets and may be subject to change before production.)
Toyota’s latest announcement underscores its push to remain competitive in the U.S. electric SUV market, leveraging technological innovation and a diversified approach to sustainable mobility.
