After more than two decades away, Mercedes-AMG is making a highly anticipated return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Partnering with customer racing team Iron Lynx, the brand will field three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 cars in the legendary endurance race, taking place from June 11 to 15, 2025.

To mark the occasion, Mercedes-AMG has created a special livery for all three entries. Inspired by the iconic Sauber-Mercedes C9 that took a famous one-two victory in 1989, the new design pays tribute to the past while looking firmly to the future. The win that year featured the legendary #63 car—driven in part by Jochen Mass, whose recent passing adds a poignant note to the team’s return.

Three Cars, One Goal

  • Car #60 will be driven by an all-Italian team of Le Mans veterans: Matteo Cairoli, Matteo Cressoni, and Claudio Schiavoni. This crew brings deep endurance racing experience to the LMGT3 class.
  • Car #61 features a mix of rising talent and seasoned skill. Australian Martin Berry made his FIA WEC debut earlier this year at Spa, while 18-year-old Dutchman Lin Hodenius becomes the youngest driver on the 2025 Le Mans grid. Belgian driver Maxime Martin, a Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver with extensive GT experience, completes the trio.
  • Car #63, which earned its Le Mans slot via the European Le Mans Series, brings a family story to the track. Australians Stephen and Brenton Grove—father and son—are set for their Le Mans debut, joined by German Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver Luca Stolz, who previously raced at La Sarthe in 2018.

Mercedes-AMG’s return to Le Mans combines racing heritage, modern engineering, and a new generation of talent—all set to compete on one of motorsport’s greatest stages.

“For Mercedes-AMG, the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans is a significant moment – 26 years after the brand with the star last competed. In 1989, Mercedes-Benz celebrated a major success with a one-two victory. We are paying tribute to the legendary Sauber-Mercedes C9 and this triumph from back then in a very special way. The three Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 represent the present in Customer Racing, but with their special Silver Arrow design inspired by the past, they also pay tribute to a piece of history. I am delighted that we are able to continue this history at Le Mans.” said Christoph Sagemüller, Head of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport.

“The FIA WEC project and the collaboration with Iron Lynx have been intense from the very beginning. We are very proud of where we are right now, because there is a clear trend and a continuous learning curve. We can build on this foundation and continue to develop. A race like the 24 Hours of Le Mans is not just about fast lap times, but also about the perfect cooperation between the team, technology and drivers. That will also be an intense task, but one that we are looking forward to.” added Stefan Wendl, Head of Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing.
