Mercedes-Benz Vans has reached a major production milestone with the rollout of its five millionth Sprinter van worldwide. The landmark vehicle—an all-electric eSprinter—was assembled at the company’s Charleston, South Carolina facility and officially delivered to FedEx, a long-time customer and global operator of Mercedes-Benz vans.
For over 30 years, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter has set the benchmark in the commercial van segment with its unmatched versatility, reliability, and low total cost of ownership. First launched in 1995 to replace the TN series, the Sprinter introduced class-leading safety features, aerodynamic design, and efficient engines. Its second generation in 2006 expanded its appeal with more body styles, greater cargo capacity, and availability under different brands in North America. The third generation, debuting in 2018, transformed the Sprinter into a mobile workspace with advanced digital features like the MBUX multimedia system, telematics, and over 1,000 configuration options. Now available with a range of drivetrains, including front-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic, the Sprinter continues to evolve with the introduction of the all-electric eSprinter—produced in Charleston and Germany—cementing its role as a global pioneer in sustainable light commercial mobility.
This milestone underscores both the global success and longevity of the Sprinter model and the strategic importance of the Charleston plant, which has served as a key hub for North American Sprinter production for nearly two decades.
The eSprinter joins FedEx’s expanding fleet of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, supporting their transition toward more sustainable logistics. The achievement reflects Mercedes-Benz Vans’ ongoing commitment to innovation, quality, and sustainability in the light commercial vehicle segment—whether through conventional or electric drivetrains.
“The global production of five million Sprinter vans and the celebration of the model’s 30th anniversary is a testament to its enduring success. This milestone reflects the dedication of our teams, the trust of our customers, and the continuous evolution of a vehicle that has defined the large van segment for three decades. We are proud of this legacy and excited for the future as we continue to drive progress in the van industry.” said Thomas Klein, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans.
