For peak performance, Audi recommends charging the high-voltage (HV) battery within the 25–45°C range. If temperatures fall below this range, internal resistance increases, slowing charging. If they rise above 50°C, there’s a risk of damaging the battery’s internal components.

To address this, Audi models like the Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, e-tron GT, and Q4 e-tron are equipped with predictive thermal management. This system automatically heats or cools the battery as needed when a high-power DC fast charger is set as a destination in the Audi e-tron route planner. Preconditioning begins automatically when using Audi’s built-in navigation, but may not activate with third-party apps. Audi recommends always using the e-tron route planner to ensure optimal charging preparation.

Optimizing Charging with the Right SoC

Charging is fastest when starting from a low SoC (5–40%). Charging above this range causes the system to automatically reduce power to protect the battery, resulting in longer charge times. This means multiple short stops at low SoC are faster overall than fewer long sessions starting from a higher SoC.

Choosing a charging station that matches or exceeds your vehicle’s maximum charging capacity is also essential to make the most of your vehicle’s capabilities.
