Tata Motors Limited reported a total sales figure of 72,753 units in April 2025, marking a 6% year-on-year (YoY) decline from the 77,521 units sold in April 2024. The dip comes amid muted demand across both commercial and passenger vehicle segments, including a sharp contraction in electric vehicle (EV) sales.

Domestic Market Performance
Tata Motors’ domestic sales stood at 70,963 units in April 2025, down 7% from 76,399 units in the same month last year.

In the Commercial Vehicles (CV) segment, the company sold a total of 27,221 units (including international business), reflecting an 8% YoY decline from 29,538 units sold in April 2024. Key highlights include:

Heavy Commercial Vehicles (HCV) sales dropped by 8% to 7,270 units.

Intermediate, Light, and Medium Commercial Vehicles (ILMCV) grew by 8% to 4,680 units.

Passenger Carrier sales rose slightly by 4% to 4,683 units.

Small Commercial Vehicles (SCV) and pickups witnessed a sharp 23% drop, totaling 9,131 units.

CV International Business (CV IB) sales grew significantly by 43%, reaching 1,457 units.

Sales in the Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicles (MH&ICV) category, including trucks and buses, totaled 12,093 units in the domestic market—down from 12,722 units last year. Combined domestic and international sales for MH&ICV came in at 12,760 units, a marginal decrease from 13,218 units in April 2024.

Passenger Vehicle Sales
In the Passenger Vehicles (PV) segment, Tata Motors sold 45,532 units (including exports), a 5% YoY decline from 47,983 units.

Domestic PV sales fell 6% to 45,199 units.

However, PV exports (PV IB) saw a massive 233% surge, rising to 333 units from just 100 units in April 2024.

Electric Vehicle (EV) sales across domestic and international markets declined steeply by 16%, totaling 5,318 units compared to 6,364 units a year ago.

The PV data includes contributions from Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Limited and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Limited.
The downturn in total sales, particularly in the EV and SCV categories, signals a cautious consumer sentiment and evolving demand dynamics in both domestic and international markets. However, notable growth in ILMCV and PV exports may offer strategic levers for recovery in the coming months.
