In a strategic move to bolster its electric vehicle (EV) portfolio in one of the world’s most dynamic automotive markets, Stellantis N.V. announced the upcoming launch of Leapmotor EVs in India. The expansion was revealed in an official statement from the company’s India headquarters in Pune.

Already operating in the country with its Jeep and Citroën brands, Stellantis is now set to bring Leapmotor’s premium electric lineup to Indian consumers. Leapmotor, a fast-growing Chinese EV manufacturer, delivered nearly 300,000 units globally in 2024, marking a doubling of its year-over-year growth.

“We’re excited to announce the entry of the Leapmotor brand in India, thereby strengthening our commitment to the market,” said Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India. “We look forward to bringing premium EVs to India’s upwardly mobile consumers—vehicles that redefine modern driving with cutting-edge technology, comfort, and sustainability.”

India’s EV market has been gaining momentum, fueled by government incentives and a growing demand for environmentally conscious mobility. Despite lingering infrastructure challenges, the premium EV segment is seen as a lucrative entry point due to concentrated demand in urban centers where charging networks are relatively more developed.

Formed from the 2021 merger of PSA Group and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, Stellantis has aggressively scaled its global electrification efforts, managing a brand portfolio that includes Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, FIAT, Jeep, Maserati, Opel, Peugeot, Ram, and Vauxhall, among others.

While details regarding the launch timeline and specific Leapmotor models remain under wraps, industry experts speculate that the initial focus will be on urban and tier-1 cities with established EV ecosystems.

The launch of Leapmotor in India marks Stellantis’ deepening commitment to the country’s transition towards sustainable mobility.
