The Electrification Coalition and Sourcewell have announced the relaunch of DriveEVFleets.org, an all-in-one online portal designed to simplify electric vehicle (EV) procurement for public fleets. This streamlined platform allows U.S. and Canadian state and local governments, as well as public and private educational institutions from K–12 to higher education, to easily access competitively awarded contracts for EVs, charging infrastructure, financing options, and best practices for EV adoption.
By leveraging the collective purchasing power of public fleets, DriveEVFleets.org aims to accelerate the shift toward vehicle electrification. Public fleets, with their high usage rates and consistent downtime at centralized locations, are particularly well-suited for EV integration. Transitioning to EVs can lead to more efficient operations and significant savings on fuel and maintenance compared to traditional internal combustion engine vehicles.
Ben Prochazka, executive director of the Electrification Coalition, emphasized that cities and other local public entities play an increasingly critical role in advancing transportation electrification in the United States. He noted that by utilizing the services offered through DriveEVFleets.org, public fleets can achieve significant cost savings in both the short and long term, while also promoting local job creation and public health benefits. Prochazka further highlighted that broader efforts by cities to electrify their vehicle operations can enhance U.S. economic and national security and send a strong signal to the U.S. auto industry about the growing demand for electric vehicles.
Since its initial launch in 2018, nearly 300 public entities operating more than 6,000 vehicles have pledged to replace their gasoline-powered vehicles with EVs via DriveEVFleets.org.
