CATL Unveils Next-Gen Shenxing Battery: 520 km Range in Just 5 Minutes of Charging

Chinese battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) has unveiled the second generation of its groundbreaking Shenxing fast-charging electric vehicle battery, setting a new benchmark in EV charging technology. The company claims the new battery can deliver up to 520 kilometers of range with just five minutes of charging.

Revealed at an event in Shanghai, CATL’s Chief Technology Officer Gao Huan announced that the battery also supports rapid charging from 0 to 80 percent in just 15 minutes. This leap in efficiency is expected to transform consumer expectations and accelerate EV adoption worldwide.

The second-gen Shenxing battery will be used in over 67 electric vehicle models by the end of 2025, marking a significant expansion in CATL’s footprint across the global automotive market.

In addition to the Shenxing battery, CATL also introduced a new sodium-ion battery with an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, aimed at lowering EV production costs and offering affordable clean mobility solutions.

CATL, the world’s largest EV battery manufacturer, supplies some of the industry’s biggest names, including Tesla, BMW, NIO, Volkswagen, and Toyota. The latest advancements reinforce CATL’s dominant position and its ambition to lead the next wave of fast, accessible, and affordable electric transportation.
