In a landmark move for the waste management industry, international recycling and sustainability giant PreZero has placed an order for 35 battery-electric trucks from Volvo Trucks, marking the largest electric vehicle order to date in Sweden’s recycling sector.

The majority of the trucks ordered are Volvo FM Low Entry models, Volvo’s first-ever truck designed solely for electric propulsion. With this, PreZero significantly scales up its investment in green transportation, having already introduced its first Volvo electric truck in 2022.

“We are very happy and proud of the trust that PreZero puts in Volvo Trucks with this order. PreZero is truly leading the way by converting its transport to zero exhaust emissions,” said Stefan Strand, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Sweden.

The move aligns with PreZero’s mission to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its operations and value chain. The new fleet will primarily serve the Stockholm region, supported by fresh infrastructure investments in depot-based charging stations.

All vehicles will feature Volvo Dynamic Steering (VDS) for precise control and reduced driver fatigue, and most will include new camera-based side mirrors to enhance safety, especially in urban areas and nighttime driving.

“Volvo’s innovation in safety and environmental design, combined with their extensive service network, makes them our ideal partner for this green transition,” stated Mårten Widlund, CEO of PreZero.

Beyond the environmental gains, the electric trucks promise quieter operations, offering a more peaceful environment in residential areas where noise pollution from traditional waste trucks is often a concern.
Volvo Trucks continues to lead in the medium- and heavy-duty electric truck sector, with over 4,900 electric trucks delivered across 49 countries. The brand’s approach to decarbonization is built on a three-path strategy—battery-electric, fuel cell-electric, and renewable fuel combustion engines—targeting net-zero emissions by 2040.
