Continental, the global premium tire manufacturer, has cemented its dominance in the electric mobility sector, supplying original equipment tires to 18 of the world’s 20 highest-volume electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers, including automotive giants such as BYD, Geely, Volkswagen, NIO, Mercedes-Benz, and Renault.
In each major region—Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), the Americas, and Asia-Pacific (APAC)—Continental has emerged as a trusted partner to nine of the top ten electric vehicle producers. The announcement underscores the company’s leadership in delivering advanced tire technology tailored to the unique needs of electric vehicles.
According to the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), one in every five vehicles sold globally is now electric, signaling a rapid transformation in the automotive landscape and a rising demand for specialized components like EV-optimized tires.
High Performance Meets High Trust
“The high level of trust placed in Continental original equipment tires by electric vehicle manufacturers worldwide confirms: We offer our customers an inspiring driving experience,” said Manja Greimeier, Head of Continental’s Tires Original Equipment Business. “Electric vehicles require particularly low rolling resistance for maximum range, quiet rolling noise for maximum driving comfort and, as is always the case with Continental tires, no compromises when it comes to safety.”
Designed for the Demands of Electric Mobility
Electric vehicles, with their increased weight from battery packs and instantaneous torque, present unique challenges for tire manufacturers. These challenges include greater abrasion, the need for reduced rolling resistance, and the importance of minimizing noise, given the quieter nature of EVs.
Continental has been ahead of the curve, beginning as early as 1993 with the introduction of its energy-efficient ContiEcoContact line. The latest innovation, the EcoContact 7, reflects decades of development with cutting-edge features like improved aerodynamics and a specially optimized sidewall. This includes an “aerodimple” structure—similar to that found on golf balls—which reduces air turbulence and enhances energy efficiency by requiring less power to keep the vehicle in motion.
Tires for All, Optimized for EVs
While tailored to the evolving needs of electric vehicles, Continental’s entire tire portfolio remains optimized for all drive types. Since 2023, the company has introduced the EV-Compatible logo—clearly marked on tire sidewalls—to identify models designed specifically for EV performance and range optimization.
With its forward-looking engineering and global reach, Continental continues to be a cornerstone of the EV ecosystem, driving cleaner, quieter, and more efficient mobility.
