General Motors and its joint ventures delivered more than 442,000 vehicles in China during the first quarter of 2025, marking positive year-on-year growth and achieving a third consecutive quarter of rising market share. The strong Q1 performance underscores GM’s growing momentum in the world’s largest auto market.

A key driver of this growth was GM’s surging New Energy Vehicle (NEV) sales, which rose by an impressive 53.2% compared to the same period last year. The company’s NEV lineup—which includes battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrids (PHEVs)—is already the most comprehensive among global automakers in China. GM plans to expand its offerings further in 2025 by adding extended range electric vehicles (EREVs), ensuring at least one NEV option for every new locally launched model.

Among the standout performers in Q1 was the Buick GL8, which sold 24,000 units, maintaining its lead in the premium MPV segment. The GL8 family will soon expand with the launch of the all-new Buick GL8 Lu Shang, including a PHEV variant to boost its NEV presence. Meanwhile, Buick LaCrosse deliveries more than doubled, and Buick Envision Plus sales more than tripled.

Mini-EV leader Wuling Hong Guang MINIEV continued its dominance with the introduction of a new four-door version in Q1, contributing to over half of the model’s 87,000 deliveries.

GM also made a notable entry in the premium import space through The Durant Guild, launching deliveries of its first product—the Chevrolet Tahoe—in March. The Guild’s multi-tier sales network continues to expand with Experience Centers complementing existing Brand Centers, offering a full suite of services from vehicle consultation to after-sales support.

“Strong performance in Q1 has set a solid foundation for our sustainable and profitable growth throughout 2025,” said Steve Hill, GM senior vice president and president of GM China. “We will continue to build momentum by enhancing product competitiveness, delivering exceptional customer experiences, and exploring new growth opportunities.”

With its diverse portfolio spanning Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, GMC, Baojun, and Wuling, GM continues to push the boundaries of smart mobility and electric innovation, reinforcing its commitment to a safer, smarter, and all-electric future.
