Hyundai Motor Türkiye has announced plans to manufacture electric vehicles (EVs) at its İzmit plant, marking a significant step toward expanding its production capacity and sustainability initiatives. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions while supporting both the local economy and the global shift toward green mobility.
The locally produced EV models will contribute to Hyundai’s expanding electric lineup, catering to the growing demand for sustainable transportation in the European market. Despite the shift towards electrification, the company will continue manufacturing internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles alongside its new EV models.
As part of its ongoing transformation, Hyundai Motor Türkiye has rebranded from its former title, “Hyundai Assan Otomotiv Sanayi,” to better align with its evolving role in the global automotive industry. The company, which serves as Hyundai Motor Group’s first and longest-standing overseas production hub outside Korea, has produced more than three million vehicles over the past 28 years. This expansion underscores its continued contributions to employment, exports, and Türkiye’s national economy.
A key aspect of Hyundai Motor Türkiye’s production strategy is its emphasis on local sourcing. More than 55% of vehicle components are manufactured domestically through a network of over 50 suppliers. The introduction of locally built EVs further reinforces this commitment to supporting the Turkish automotive supply chain.
By accelerating its electric vehicle production, Hyundai Motor Türkiye strengthens both its competitive edge and its environmental sustainability efforts. This strategic move not only aligns with Hyundai’s goal of offering only zero-tailpipe emission vehicles in Europe by 2035 but also highlights Türkiye’s growing significance as a key production hub in Hyundai’s European operations.
