Volvo Buses Unveils Mexico’s First Electric Articulated Bus, Revolutionizing Public Transport

Volvo Buses has introduced the Volvo 7800 Electric, Mexico’s first electric articulated and bi-articulated bus, marking a significant milestone in the country’s transition to sustainable urban mobility. Built on Volvo Buses’ global BZR electromobility platform, the new electric bus aims to enhance the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, offering a cleaner, more efficient, and higher-capacity transport solution.

A Game-Changer for Public Transport
With over 25 years of experience in Mexico and a leading presence in the BRT segment, Volvo Buses continues to drive innovation in sustainable transportation. The Volvo 7800 Electric is designed to address the growing demand for higher passenger capacity while significantly reducing emissions in urban areas.

“We are accelerating the transformation to sustainable and efficient transport solutions to further improve the public transport system in Mexican cities. This will not only benefit operators and passengers but will also enhance the quality of life for city residents,” said Rafael Kisel, President of Volvo Group Mexico.

Capacity, Efficiency, and Safety at the Core
The bi-articulated Volvo 7800 Electric, measuring 25.6 meters, boasts a capacity of up to 300 passengers, while the articulated model can transport 191 passengers. Both models feature a 250 kWh charging capacity, ensuring efficient and reliable operation.

To maximize uptime, Volvo Buses is offering a maintenance contract, access to spare parts, and timely service, ensuring seamless operations for transport providers. Additionally, the new electric bus will be equipped with Volvo Buses’ latest active safety systems, prioritizing the protection of pedestrians and cyclists.

The Volvo 7800 Electric also introduces a connectivity and circularity model, a unique feature for the Mexican market, aimed at improving fleet management and operational efficiency.
