Chevrolet has taken a bold step into the future of off-road racing with the debut of the Silverado EV ZR2 off-road race truck concept at the legendary Mint 400. The all-electric race truck will also compete in the grueling event as part of Hall Racing’s lineup, with Chad Hall behind the wheel in the Open Production EV class.

“There is no better proving ground to test the limits of our vehicles than competitive racing,” said Scott Bell, Vice President of Chevrolet. “The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, which uses 98% GM production parts, showcases some of the best of Chevrolet to produce a beyond-capable pickup to tackle a challenging race of the Mint 400’s magnitude.”

Proven Off-Road Capabilities

Following in the footsteps of the Colorado ZR2 and Silverado ZR2, the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept features:

  • A lifted suspension with front and rear off-road tuning
  • Advanced Multimatic damper technology
  • Locking differentials for improved traction
  • Underbody skid protection for added durability

Developed in just five months, the race truck features prototype Multimatic Adaptive Spool Valve continuously adaptive dampers, allowing over 13 inches of wheel travel in both the front and rear. Combined with 37-inch BF Goodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tires, the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept is built to dominate the harsh desert terrain.

Electrified Power and Performance

The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept boasts a tri-motor electric propulsion system delivering an astonishing 1,100 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. Chevrolet engineers will work alongside Hall Racing to monitor the truck’s performance, durability, and capability in real-world race conditions.

“What we learn from racing is applied to vehicles consumers can buy,” said Chad Hall, primary driver and owner of Hall Racing. “An off-road race like The Mint 400 is equivalent to a lifetime of vehicle wear and tear.”

Hall Racing first competed in a stock production class with a Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 in 2017 and has since completed 53 of 54 races entered, showcasing Chevrolet’s off-road engineering prowess.

Future of Chevrolet’s Off-Road EV Lineup

The Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept’s unveiling comes ahead of the launch of the 2026 Silverado EV Trail Boss this summer. The Trail Boss will be Chevrolet’s first off-road-focused electric pickup, featuring a factory-installed lift, 18-inch wheels, 35-inch all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and a new Terrain Mode for enhanced maneuverability in challenging conditions.

With the introduction of the Silverado EV ZR2 race truck concept, Chevrolet continues to push the boundaries of electrified off-road performance, proving that EV technology can thrive in even the most extreme environments.
