MG Motor has announced an update to its public charging policy for MG Windsor EV owners, aiming to ensure fair and equitable access while promoting responsible charging practices. This move comes in response to increasing instances of excessive usage that exceed the fair usage policy, as well as concerns over battery health due to non-recommended charging practices.
MG has been at the forefront of making electric vehicle (EV) ownership more accessible through various initiatives, including complimentary home chargers, public and community charging infrastructure, a unified charging platform, and free public charging for a limited time. However, to sustain these benefits while preventing misuse, the company is introducing a new public charging usage limit.
Ensuring Equitable Access & Battery Health
With this adjustment, MG aims to continue providing fair access to public charging while discouraging charging behaviors that could negatively impact battery health and longevity. The company encourages all MG EV owners to review the charging guidelines in their owner’s manual to adopt best practices, particularly regarding mindful use of DC fast charging.
“We sincerely appreciate the understanding and cooperation of our MG community. This policy adjustment will help us maintain valuable charging benefits while ensuring that all eligible Windsor EV owners can continue to enjoy seamless access to charging infrastructure,” an MG spokesperson stated.
Commitment to Sustainable EV Ownership
MG remains committed to enhancing the EV ownership experience and investing in sustainable and accessible charging solutions. By implementing responsible charging policies, the company seeks to promote the long-term reliability and efficiency of its EV ecosystem.
