Volvo Cars reported global sales of 50,820 units in January 2025, marking a 5% decline compared to the same period last year. The company attributed the drop primarily to the timing of the Chinese New Year, which impacted overall sales.

Despite the decrease in total sales, the Swedish automaker witnessed a strong surge in its electrified lineup, comprising fully electric and plug-in hybrid models. Sales of electrified vehicles grew by 17%, accounting for 44% of all units sold in January. Fully electric models saw a modest 5% increase to 9,705 units, while plug-in hybrid sales jumped by 28% to 12,693 units.

Meanwhile, sales of mild hybrids and internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles declined by 17% year-on-year, reflecting a broader industry shift towards electrification.

Among Volvo’s best-selling models, the XC60 led with 18,972 units sold, surpassing last year’s 18,011. The XC40/EX40 lineup saw a significant drop, with sales falling to 8,736 units from 12,628 in January 2024. The XC90 also experienced a decline, with 7,473 units sold compared to 8,167 in the previous year.
