Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina (TBMNC), Toyota’s first in-house battery production facility outside Japan, is set to begin production and will start shipping batteries for North American electrified vehicles in April.

The state-of-the-art facility, a nearly $14 billion investment, marks Toyota’s 11th manufacturing plant in the United States and is expected to produce batteries for hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), and battery electric vehicles (BEVs). The plant will support approximately 5,000 jobs, reinforcing Toyota’s commitment to strengthening the U.S. manufacturing sector.

This initiative is part of Toyota’s “best-in-town” approach—focusing on local investment, job creation, and sustainable manufacturing to meet regional demands. With this latest expansion, Toyota’s total U.S. investment reaches $49 billion, supporting over 280,000 jobs in the industry.

TBMNC was established in November 2021 and is led by Plant President Sean Suggs. Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMNA) holds a 90% equity stake, with Toyota Tsusho owning the remaining 10%. The plant will play a crucial role in Toyota’s multi-pathway strategy, reinforcing its leadership in electrification while boosting economic growth in North Carolina and beyond.
