Despite facing significant challenges, Volkswagen delivered approximately 4.8 million vehicles globally in 2024, a slight decline of 1.4% compared to the previous year. In Germany, the brand maintained its leadership position with a 19.1% market share, according to the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA).
Volkswagen continued to expand its presence in the battery electric vehicle (BEV) market. Since the launch of the ID. family in 2019, the company has sold over 1.35 million ID. models worldwide, including around 500,000 units of the ID.3. In 2024 alone, Volkswagen sold 383,100 BEVs.
Volkswagen’s dominance extended to the German BEV segment, where it captured 16.3% of new registrations—a 2.8 percentage point increase from 2023. Additionally, five Volkswagen models, including the Golf, T-Roc, Tiguan, Passat, and Polo, ranked among the top ten most popular vehicles in Germany. Martin Sander, Volkswagen Board Member for Sales, Marketing and After Sales: “Around the globe, 2024 was a difficult year with sluggish economic activity, political challenges and intense competition – particularly in China. Yet, we are beginning the new year with optimism. Not only do we have attractive products, but we are meeting the needs of a wide variety of customer groups with our extensive, diverse model range that covers all drive types.”
