Tata Motors Limited reported total sales of 2,35,599 vehicles in the domestic and international markets for Q3 FY25, showing a marginal increase from 2,34,981 units in Q3 FY24. While domestic sales contributed significantly, international markets added to the overall momentum.
Commercial Vehicles Performance
The company’s commercial vehicle (CV) segment recorded domestic sales of 91,260 units in Q3 FY25, reflecting a slight year-on-year (YoY) decline of 1% compared to Q3 FY24. However, sequential quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) performance showed a marked improvement, propelled by festive demand and a resurgence in construction and mining activities post-monsoon.
- HCV Segment: Despite a 9% YoY dip, the heavy commercial vehicle (HCV) segment saw robust QoQ growth.
- ILMCV Trucks: Achieved 3% YoY growth, underpinned by demand in logistics and construction.
- Passenger Carriers: Recorded an impressive 30% YoY growth, driven by demand from State Transport Undertakings (STUs) and the tourism sector.
- Small and Light Commercial Vehicles: Experienced a slight decline of 2% YoY, attributed to financing challenges among first-time buyers.
Girish Wagh, Executive Director of Tata Motors, noted, “The improvement over the 19% YoY decline in Q2 FY25 highlights the resilience of the CV sector. Looking ahead, we expect demand to improve further in Q4 FY25, with infrastructure spending and growth in end-use segments driving the industry forward.”
Passenger Vehicles Performance
Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle (PV) division continued its strong momentum, with domestic sales, including EVs, at 1,39,424 units in Q3 FY25—a 1% increase YoY. Electric vehicle (EV) sales rose by 11% YoY, with 16,119 units sold.
- SUV Growth: SUV volumes grew 19% YoY, with the Tata Punch becoming the highest-selling car model in India in CY24, exceeding 200,000 units.
- CNG Vehicles: CNG sales surged 77%, highlighting Tata’s focus on alternative powertrains.
- EV Segment: Despite fleet sales declining due to the FAME II subsidy expiry, the personal EV segment recorded 19% YoY growth.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, stated, “CY24 marked our fourth consecutive year of record-breaking sales with 565,000 units sold. With exciting launches like Curvv, Nexon CNG, and Nexon.ev 45, we are poised for sustained growth in CY25.”
Tata Motors remains optimistic about the coming quarters, emphasizing infrastructure development, multi-powertrain innovations, and a robust product portfolio to capture growth opportunities in both CV and PV segments.
The company’s ability to navigate challenges while driving innovation positions it strongly for success in 2025.
