Hyundai is preparing to launch its long-awaited Creta EV in India, marking a key step in its transition to electric vehicles. The company has recently shared the first official teaser of the all-electric SUV, which features an image of an AC charging station and the caption “Electric is now Creta.” In addition to the teaser image, a video clip reveals the silhouette of the vehicle, partially showing the charging flap located at the front of the SUV.
The Creta EV has been under development for a significant period, with multiple test mules spotted over the last year and a half. According to Tarun Garg, COO of Hyundai Motor India, the Creta EV will be officially unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in January 2025.
Expected Design Changes
The design of the Creta EV will largely resemble its petrol and diesel-powered counterparts, with a few modifications to improve efficiency. The electric version will feature a closed front grille and 17-inch alloy wheels designed for better aerodynamics. Additionally, spy shots suggest a revised rear bumper for the electric SUV, though the overall design will remain familiar.
While the Creta EV is expected to skip the jewel-themed grille seen in the internal combustion engine model, it will retain the distinctive split lighting setup, which includes dual-projector LED headlamps and twin LED DRLs connected by a thin LED strip. The side profile and rear design will largely remain the same as the conventional Creta.
Interior & Technology Features
Inside, the Creta EV will borrow its cabin layout from the petrol version, but with notable updates. The new model will feature a three-spoke steering wheel replacing the previous flat-bottom design. A stalk drive selector is also expected to be included, offering a more modern driving experience.
The SUV’s interior will be enhanced by a curved 10.25-inch dual-screen setup, integrating both the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster. Additionally, the upholstery will feature a Creta electric motif, signaling the car’s electric nature.
In terms of safety, the Creta EV will come equipped with Level 2 ADAS, six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, hill start assist, electronic stability control, and front parking sensors.
Powertrain, Competitors, and Pricing
Hyundai will likely use a modified platform from the existing Creta for the Creta EV, which is expected to share the powertrain of the Kona Electric. This means the Creta EV will likely feature a 45 kWh battery pack, placing it on par with the Tata Curvv’s entry-level variant. The MG ZS EV comes with a 50.3 kWh battery pack, while the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is expected to offer two battery options — 49 kWh and 61 kWh — with outputs of 142 bhp and 171 bhp, respectively.
The Creta EV is expected to be available only with a front-wheel-drive configuration, making it stand out from some of its all-wheel-drive competitors. Pricing for the Creta EV is anticipated to range between Rs 20 lakh and 25 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a competitive option in India’s growing electric vehicle market.
