ChargePoint and General Motors have announced a groundbreaking collaboration to install up to 500 ultra-fast charging ports at strategic locations across the United States. Branded under GM Energy, the new charging locations are set to open to the public by the end of 2025, further advancing the country’s transition to electric mobility.
The initiative will incorporate ChargePoint’s cutting-edge Omni Port system, which supports CCS and NACS charging ports. This innovation eliminates the need for adapters or dedicated parking spaces, offering unmatched flexibility for EV drivers. Many of the locations will also feature ChargePoint’s Express Plus platform, delivering ultra-fast charging speeds of up to 500kW.
Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, highlighted the significance of the collaboration:
“The transition to electric mobility continues to be driven by leaders such as General Motors offering innovative EVs and committing to make chargers as ubiquitous as possible. Together, ChargePoint and GM will deliver a seamless fast charging experience via reliable charging hardware managed by our industry-leading software platform.”
Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy, echoed this sentiment:
“Continuing to provide customers with better charging options helps to remove barriers to EV adoption and improve the ownership experience. With ultra-fast charging, Omni Port technology, and excellent customer experiences, this collaboration should be another reason why EV drivers and the EV-curious should be excited.”
The partnership also introduces an incentive program designed to ease the deployment of DC fast chargers by third-party charge point operators (CPOs). This initiative aims to streamline infrastructure development, from site identification and permitting to construction and installation.
This strategic alliance underscores both companies’ commitment to expanding EV infrastructure and improving accessibility for electric vehicle drivers nationwide. As the deployment progresses, ChargePoint and GM will work closely with site hosts and operators to ensure the success of the program.
