SAIC Motor Achieves Record-Breaking NEV Sales in November, Accelerates Global Expansion and Autonomous Driving Innovations

SAIC Motor has reported exceptional sales performance for November, driven by surging demand for new energy vehicles (NEVs) and continued global expansion. The company’s production and sales report reveals total wholesale sales of 479,000 units for the month, marking a 19.1% increase month-on-month and sustaining a five-month growth streak.

NEV sales were a standout success, with 175,000 units sold in November—a 16.1% year-on-year increase and a record high for the year. From January to November, SAIC Motor’s NEV wholesale volume reached 1.08 million units, up 19.5% from the previous year.

Driving Growth with Innovative Models

The company’s robust performance is attributed to strong sales across its diverse portfolio of brands and models. Premium electric brand IM Motors exceeded 10,000 units in monthly sales, achieving both month-on-month and year-on-year growth. New launches such as the Roewe iMAX8 DMH hybrid MPV, the Roewe D7 DMH World Champion Edition, and the MG ES5 SUV with a groundbreaking anti-motion sickness system further fueled demand.

SAIC Volkswagen, a joint venture with Volkswagen Group, contributed significantly with 16,000 NEV wholesale sales in November. Its ID. family models, including the ID.3, surpassed cumulative sales of 200,000 units, solidifying its top position among joint venture electric vehicle manufacturers.

Strategic Partnership with Volkswagen Group

On November 26, SAIC Motor extended its partnership with Volkswagen Group for another decade, until 2040. The joint venture will focus on developing 18 new models by 2030, including 15 tailored for the Chinese market, to meet rising consumer demand for pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Global Expansion Milestones

SAIC Motor’s global footprint continues to grow, with overseas wholesale sales surpassing 940,000 units from January to November. The MG brand, a key driver of international success, achieved notable milestones:

  • The MG HS earned top safety ratings from Euro NCAP and ANCAP.
  • The MG3 HEV was awarded Thailand’s 2024 Car of the Year.
  • The MG3 family consistently exceeded 10,000 monthly global sales.
  • In Europe, MG achieved over 220,000 cumulative sales, maintaining growth despite the EU’s anti-subsidy investigation.

Breakthroughs in Autonomous Driving

SAIC Motor is advancing intelligent driving technology on multiple fronts. On November 14, a fleet of 40 L4-level autonomous trucks began operations at Peru’s Chancay Port. The company also launched its L3-level intelligent connected vehicle pilot programs and expanded its Robotaxi operations in China, with vehicles achieving a cumulative mileage of 4 million kilometers.

Further innovations include the integration of the Beidou navigation system with vehicle networking technology, enhancing positioning and intelligent driving assistance. SAIC Motor plans to launch a mass-market L3-level autonomous driving solution by 2026, positioning itself as an industry leader in consumer-focused autonomous driving.
