In a significant stride towards making electric vehicles (EVs) more accessible to drivers across the U.S., General Motors (GM) and EVgo have announced the installation of their 2,000th co-branded public fast charging stall. The milestone was achieved with the opening of a new charging station in Murrieta, California, located off Interstate 215 in Riverside County.
The Murrieta charging station features five 350kW fast chargers capable of accommodating up to 10 EVs simultaneously. Conveniently situated near retail shopping, coffee shops, and dining destinations, the station underscores GM and EVgo’s commitment to enhancing the EV ownership experience.
The partnership between GM and EVgo, spanning 390 locations across 45 metropolitan markets in 32 states, aims to provide reliable and accessible fast charging options for all EV owners, particularly for those who lack home charging facilities, such as renters and residents of multifamily housing.
With a target of 2,850 DC fast charging stalls nationwide, the collaboration plans to add 400 public fast charging stalls at flagship destinations in major metropolitan areas, including Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, New York, and Texas.
The initiative has seen rapid progress. In August 2023, the companies celebrated the opening of their 1,000th fast charging stall in Woodbridge, Illinois. In just over a year, they have doubled their EV charging footprint, extending their network to highway rest stops and urban centers.
“Our collaboration with EVgo underscores our dedication to providing EV drivers with the best possible experience by expanding reliable fast charging infrastructure across the country,” said Wade Sheffer, Vice President of GM Energy. “We look forward to continuing to offer premium charging experiences for years to come.”
Dennis Kish, President of EVgo, echoed the sentiment, stating, “As we work to deploy our first flagship destinations next year, we are thrilled to celebrate today’s milestone of reaching 2,000 fast charging stalls built through this program.”
With the growing emphasis on sustainable transportation, GM and EVgo’s efforts to build a robust public charging network are pivotal in supporting the transition to electric vehicles and enhancing the convenience of EV ownership nationwide.
