BMW Group’s state-of-the-art plant in Debrecen, Hungary, has reached a pivotal milestone with the production of its first near-series fully-electric X models for the Neue Klasse. This marks the beginning of the plant’s final preparation phase, with series production slated to commence by late 2025.
“The production of the first test vehicles in Debrecen is an important milestone in commissioning the new plant,” said Milan Nedeljković, BMW AG Board Member for Production. This phase enables the testing and fine-tuning of logistics and manufacturing processes under real-world conditions to ensure seamless series production.
Fine-Tuning for Perfection
The initial production of test vehicles serves as a crucial step in integrating the Neue Klasse models into the Debrecen facility. These vehicles undergo all production phases, replicating the complexity of full-scale operations to validate equipment, tools, and digital systems. Materials and components are delivered daily, with each vehicle meticulously analyzed to identify areas for optimization.
As production ramps up, intensive training programs for new staff are underway to ensure familiarity with advanced machinery and processes. Collaboration across departments is key to refining operations ahead of the official series launch.
A Glimpse into the Future
The Debrecen facility is central to BMW’s vision for electric mobility. By producing Neue Klasse models, the plant embodies the company’s commitment to sustainable innovation and cutting-edge technology. This milestone underscores BMW’s readiness to meet the demands of an electrified future while delivering vehicles that align with its hallmark standards of quality and performance.
While the X model remains in its pre-production phase, its development at Debrecen signifies BMW’s steady progression toward redefining automotive excellence in the era of electric mobility.
