Walmart announced that it is expanding its InHome delivery fleet with the Chevrolet BrightDrop 400 electric vans, which are rolling out in major U.S. markets this year to support the retailer’s goal of reducing emissions and enhancing delivery efficiency. The BrightDrop 400 vans will soon be seen delivering directly to customer homes in Austin, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, northwest Arkansas, Orlando, and the San Francisco Bay Area.
Walmart’s InHome associates, trained to deliver groceries directly into customers’ kitchens or garages, took part in a pilot with General Motors to assess the BrightDrop 400 in real-world conditions. Feedback highlighted the vans’ capabilities, including their maneuverability in dense urban areas, an ergonomic design allowing for quick entries and exits, and automated features such as auto-closing doors to boost delivery efficiency.
“The addition of the BrightDrop 400 to our fleet aligns with our commitment to a people-led, tech-powered approach, ensuring both our associates and customers benefit from enhanced delivery services,” said Warren Moore, vice president of Dedicated Delivery at Walmart U.S.
With the advanced safety features, large infotainment screens, and low-step height, the BrightDrop 400 vans are purpose-built to support Walmart’s expanding InHome delivery program, which is now available to 62 million households nationwide. These electric vans, produced at GM’s CAMI Assembly plant, underscore Walmart’s dedication to sustainable last-mile delivery solutions and provide a promising model for the future of eco-friendly logistics.
