In a landmark deal, Kwoon Chung, Hong Kong’s largest non-franchised bus operator, has signed a purchase agreement for 100 new buses from Volvo, comprising the Volvo B8R and Volvo B13R models. This fleet expansion marks the first collaboration between the two industry leaders in over a decade, with the first units set to begin service in early 2025.

The decision follows an in-depth evaluation by Kwoon Chung, selecting Volvo’s innovative bus platforms for their advanced technology, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. The Volvo B13R, a standout in fuel efficiency with savings of up to 9%, and the best-selling Volvo B8R will together enhance Kwoon Chung’s operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.

Emmanuel Jupet, Managing Director of Volvo Bus Hong Kong, commented on the collaboration, stating, “This partnership underscores the trust Kwoon Chung places in our brand and highlights our commitment to providing high-quality vehicles that meet the dynamic needs of modern transport.”

Rex Wong, Director of Engineering at Kwoon Chung Bus Holdings Limited, highlighted the importance of the investment: “This agreement with Volvo allows us to exceed passenger expectations by integrating superior safety and comfort into our services. We are confident that the new Volvo buses will support our goals of cost-effective and reliable public transportation.”
