Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), a subsidiary of Tata Motors and a leader in India’s electric vehicle (EV) market, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Rajasthan Solar Association (RSA) to jointly promote electric mobility and solar energy for EV charging across Rajasthan. This collaboration aligns with the Indian government’s push for renewable energy adoption, notably through initiatives like the Prime Minister Surya Ghar Yojana, which has already driven over four lakh rooftop solar installations nationwide.

Rajasthan’s strong renewable energy capacity – the second highest in India, comprising 20% of the state’s power capacity – is further enhanced by Jaipur’s growing EV adoption rate. The partnership aims to leverage this synergy by providing discounts on Tata EVs for customers with certified solar installations at their residences or businesses, a program to be managed by RSA.

TPEM’s Chief Strategy Officer, Mr. Balaje Rajan, emphasized the advantages of combining EVs with solar energy: “Rooftop solar presents a unique opportunity for EV owners, offering the twin benefits of low-cost power and zero-emission mobility. With more than 90% of EV users charging at home, and nearly 30% already using rooftop solar, this collaboration will help eliminate fuel costs and enable truly zero-cost mobility.”

RSA’s CEO, Mr. Nitin Agarwal, stated, “This partnership marks a revolutionary step in Rajasthan’s journey towards sustainable energy, reducing reliance on traditional fuels and fostering the growth of green energy in the state.”

This initiative not only supports the adoption of sustainable technologies but also contributes to Rajasthan’s and India’s overarching carbon reduction goals, making strides towards an environmentally conscious future.
