LG Chem announced its plans to expand its global mobility materials business by supplying thermally conductive adhesives to North American automakers, with the aim of establishing its automotive adhesive unit as a multi-million-dollar segment. Thermally conductive adhesives are crucial for thermal management and performance of battery packs, bonding cells to modules while providing electrical insulation.

With production facilities in Europe and the U.S. and over 180 patents, LG Chem has created a competitive technical advantage, offering customized solutions focused on cost reduction and lightweighting. Since entering the North American automotive adhesives market in 2018 with the acquisition of Uniseal, a U.S.-based adhesive specialist, LG Chem has made strides in developing eco-friendly adhesives, including those free of harmful chemicals and with lower carbon emissions.

LG Chem’s efforts are broadening beyond battery adhesives to include polyimide varnishes and silver nano pastes for motors and converters, in collaboration with domestic and global partners. The company is also diversifying its lineup with adhesives suitable for electronic components such as camera sensors, headlamps, and in-vehicle displays, tapping into a market expected to grow from $6.7 billion in 2024 to $13.0 billion by 2030.
