Ford Pro™, the commercial arm of Ford Motor Company, has launched a new digital tool called E-Switch Assist to help businesses determine if their fleets are ready for electric vehicle (EV) integration. The tool, now available in multiple markets including the U.S., UK, and several European countries, aims to simplify the transition to electric by offering data-driven insights tailored to business needs.
E-Switch Assist: Tailored Solutions for Fleet Electrification
As the shift toward sustainable transportation accelerates, E-Switch Assist is designed to help businesses evaluate which gas-powered vehicles are ready for an electric upgrade. Using advanced algorithms, the tool analyzes connected vehicle data such as distance traveled, cargo load, terrain, and driver behavior to identify suitable EV candidates. This complimentary web-based tool also estimates the number of daily charges needed, allowing fleet operators to assess EV readiness with confidence.
Nathan McDonald, EV Strategy and Brand Manager at Ford Pro, highlighted the impact of E-Switch Assist on fleet electrification decisions, saying, “Smart tools informed by data like E-Switch Assist are opening up many new conversations with our commercial customers about EV readiness. It’s not just about selling new vehicles—it’s about changing mindsets and helping businesses save time and money.”
A Push Toward an Electric Future
Despite growing interest in electrification, a survey of fleet operators who have adopted EVs revealed that traditional gas and diesel vehicles still comprise 58% of their fleets, with hybrid vehicles making up nearly 20% . The E-Switch Assist tool aims to change this by providing businesses with clear insights into their fleet’s potential for electrification. Since its launch, the tool has evaluated over 38,000 commercial vehicles, identifying that nearly 53% could transition to electric .
For businesses ready to take the next step, Ford Pro offers end-to-end solutions, including electric vehicles like the E-Transit van and F-150 Lightning pickup, charging infrastructure, and software to streamline the process. With charging solutions for both home and worksite use, Ford Pro ensures that the transition to electric is as seamless as possible for its customers.
Supporting Home Charging for Commercial Use
Recognizing that nearly 30% of fleet operators’ employees take company vehicles home after work , Ford Pro has introduced the Series 2 48-amp charger, a high-quality solution designed for home use. This charger features RFID technology for easy access and cellular connectivity for usage monitoring, making it ideal for overnight charging. Ford Pro Charging Software supports fleet management by tracking employee charging activity, offering energy reimbursement reports, and scheduling charges during non-peak hours to reduce costs.
