In a significant step towards greener logistics, DSV Air & Sea Singapore has introduced two new electric trucks, marking the start of a new era for sustainable transport in the city-state. The vehicles, a Volvo FL Electric and Volvo FM Electric, were handed over during a special ceremony at DSV Singapore, attended by Gino Marzola, Managing Director of DSV Air & Sea Singapore & Malaysia, and Anna Engblom, Managing Director of Volvo Trucks Southeast Asia & Japan. The Ambassador of Denmark to Singapore, Jakob Brix Tange, was also present at the event.
Electrifying Singapore’s Logistics Industry
Volvo Trucks, a global leader in electromobility, is helping drive Singapore’s shift towards electric vehicles (EVs) with these cutting-edge trucks. The Volvo FL Electric is designed for urban distribution, while the Volvo FM Electric is tailored for long-haul operations, both offering efficient, zero-emission transport solutions. This move aligns with the goals of the Singapore Green Plan 2030, which aims to support sustainable development across the nation.
During the handover, Gino Marzola remarked, “Launching our new electric fleet marks a pivotal moment for DSV in Singapore. It’s not just about adopting new technology; it’s about leading the way toward a greener, more sustainable future.”
Key Features of Volvo’s Electric Trucks
The Volvo FL Electric, with its compact design and nimble turning radius, is optimized for last-mile deliveries in Singapore’s dense urban areas. Meanwhile, the Volvo FM Electric offers greater payload capacity and advanced technology for longer journeys, featuring five batteries for extended range and versatility. Both models boast an all-electric drivetrain, reducing noise pollution and operating costs compared to traditional diesel vehicles.
Volvo Trucks plans to further enhance its electric truck offerings, with the launch of a long-range version of its FH Electric truck in 2025. This upcoming model is expected to travel up to 600 kilometers on a single charge, thanks to innovations such as Volvo’s e-axle technology.
Sustainability and Support Initiatives
To ensure seamless integration, DSV has signed a 7-year Gold Service Agreement with Volvo Trucks, covering all maintenance and repairs for the new electric fleet. UD Trucks Singapore also provided driver training, ensuring that DSV’s team is fully prepared to operate the vehicles efficiently.
Joseph Heng, General Manager of UD Trucks Singapore, emphasized the importance of after-sales support, stating, “Providing comprehensive training and after-sales support to ensure these electric trucks deliver on their promise is at the heart of our commitment to helping Singapore achieve its sustainability goals.”
A Global Push for Net-Zero Emissions
DSV’s adoption of electric trucks is part of its broader strategy to expand its EV fleet globally, with a target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050. In Singapore, the company already operates electric vans and smaller trucks for last-mile deliveries, with the introduction of the larger Volvo models positioning DSV to scale up its operations as demand for sustainable logistics solutions grows.
DSV’s commitment to sustainability was recently underscored by its landmark agreement to acquire DB Schenker, further bolstering its global logistics capabilities. This acquisition aligns with DSV’s mission to drive sustainable solutions worldwide while enhancing its capacity to meet local and international green goals.
The introduction of these electric trucks has already generated positive feedback from clients interested in adopting electric vehicles, signaling growing momentum for sustainable logistics in Singapore.
