Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) has announced an ambitious agreement with the Transport Department of Uttar Pradesh to automate an additional 12 driving license test tracks across the state. This partnership aims to improve the efficiency and transparency of the driving license evaluation process, furthering road safety initiatives.

The Memorandum of Agreement, signed in December 2023, follows the successful automation of five driving test tracks earlier this year in Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Mathura, Prayagraj, and Varanasi. The new automated tracks will be located in Aligarh, Azamgarh (two tracks), Basti, Bareilly, Gonda, Jhansi, Meerut, Mirzapur, Moradabad, Muzaffarnagar, and Pratapgarh. These facilities will cater to testing for two-wheelers, light motor vehicles (LMVs), and heavy motor vehicles (HMVs).

Shri Dayashankar Singh, Hon’ble Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Transport, Uttar Pradesh, praised the collaboration, stating, “Automation makes the issuance of driving licenses more scientific, transparent, and efficient. This initiative will help us achieve our goal of enhancing road safety and reducing accidents.”

Mr. Rahul Bharti, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, expressed gratitude to the Uttar Pradesh government for their trust in this vital road safety project. “Together, we will streamline and automate the evaluation process for awarding driving licenses. The automation of driving license testing will bring about a positive transformation, ensuring that only capable candidates receive driving licenses,” he stated.

The automated driving test tracks will feature high-definition cameras and an integrated IT system, ensuring a completely computerized and transparent testing process. License applicants will be assessed through a comprehensive test, with results auto-generated by technology in accordance with the Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).

Maruti Suzuki’s commitment to road safety encompasses five key pillars: Engineering, Education, Evaluation, Enforcement, and Emergency Care. The introduction of automated driving license testing will significantly strengthen the evaluation process, eliminating manual intervention and ensuring a rigorous and standardized approach to issuing licenses.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in promoting safer roads and responsible driving in Uttar Pradesh, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
