Ashok Leyland, the flagship company of the Hinduja Group and India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, flagged off its groundbreaking electric trucks, marking a new era in sustainable transportation. The AVTR 55T Electric Tractor, BOSS 19T Electric, and BOSS 14T Electric trucks were unveiled in partnership with Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE Group), as Ashok Leyland begins deliveries of 180 electric vehicles to the group.
The flag-off ceremony, held at Ashok Leyland’s headquarters, was led by Mr. Shenu Agarwal, Managing Director and CEO of Ashok Leyland, and Mr. Kartikey Hariyani, Founder and CEO of Billion E-Mobility and ChargeZone. Senior leaders from both companies, including Dr. N Saravanan, CTO of Ashok Leyland, and Mr. Sanjeev Kulkarni, CTO of BillionE, were also present at the event.
Ashok Leyland’s delivery includes the BOSS Electric Truck, India’s first electric vehicle in the Intermediate Commercial Vehicle (ICV) category, and the AVTR 55T Electric Tractor, the nation’s first 4×2 electric tractor. Both vehicles are designed to provide superior performance, safety, and total cost of ownership (TCO), featuring advanced battery technology and integrated safety systems.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Shenu Agarwal expressed pride in Ashok Leyland’s pioneering role in electric mobility: “With the delivery of the AVTR 55T Electric Tractor and BOSS ICV Electric trucks, we are proud to lead the transition to green mobility in India. The electric trucks are equipped with features like Advanced Driver Assist Systems (ADAS) for enhanced safety, IP67-protected battery packs for durability, and dual-gun charging technology for faster recharging. This milestone strengthens Ashok Leyland’s position as a leader in green commercial mobility and reinforces its commitment to reducing India’s carbon footprint through innovative technology.
