The Volkswagen Team Switzerland, led by long-distance electric driving expert Felix Egolf, drove the new all-electric ID.7 Pro S for an impressive 794 kilometers on a single battery charge. The journey, completed in 15 hours and 42 minutes of net driving time, significantly surpassed the model’s official WLTP range of up to 709 kilometers. The test took place on public roads and under normal traffic conditions throughout the day.

The team drove an 81-kilometer circuit in the Zug area near Zurich, covering a mix of main roads, motorways, and country roads with varying elevations. Eight drivers contributed to the 794-kilometer achievement over two consecutive days, equivalent to driving from Basel to Emden, where the ID.7 is manufactured. The average energy consumption was an exceptionally low 10.3 kWh/100 km, far below the model’s WLTP rating of 13.6 kWh/100 km, comparable to about 1.1 liters of diesel per 100 km.

Felix Egolf, an expert in energy-efficient driving and known as a hypermiler, has a track record of record-breaking achievements. In 2020 and 2021, the Swiss driver set two impressive records in the ID.3. In the first, he surpassed the ID.3 1st’s theoretical range, driving 531 kilometers from Zwickau, Germany, to Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In the second attempt, driving an ID.3 Pro S with a larger battery, Egolf covered 602 kilometers on a single charge, crossing 15 Alpine passes and ascending a total of 13,000 meters in altitude.
