Tata Motors Breaks Ground on State-of-the-Art Production Facility in Tamil Nadu

In a significant move to boost indigenous manufacturing, Tata Motors Group, India’s leading producer of commercial and passenger vehicles, has laid the foundation for a world-class production facility in Panapakkam, Ranipet district, Tamil Nadu. The groundbreaking ceremony, held today, marked the commencement of the new manufacturing plant that will produce next-gen cars and SUVs for Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).

The high-profile event was attended by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thiru M.K. Stalin and Tata Sons Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, alongside senior government officials and Tata Group representatives. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Stalin lauded Tata Group’s longstanding relationship with Tamil Nadu and welcomed Tata Motors’ new investment, stating, “Tata Group has a deep-rooted connection with Tamil Nadu. We are proud to host this world-class facility that will contribute to the state’s industrial growth.”

N. Chandrasekaran emphasized the importance of Tamil Nadu’s established automotive ecosystem and shared Tata Motors’ vision for the Panapakkam plant. “This facility will produce electric and luxury vehicles, designed with cutting-edge technology and sustainability at its core. We are also committed to empowering women, with plans for a high share of women employees across all levels,” he stated.

With an investment of approximately ₹9,000 crore, the plant aims for an annual production capacity of over 250,000 vehicles. The facility, set to begin operations in phases, is expected to reach full capacity within 5 to 7 years. The plant will create over 5,000 direct and indirect jobs and will operate entirely on renewable energy, reinforcing Tata’s commitment to sustainable manufacturing.

This development further strengthens Tamil Nadu’s position as a key player in India’s automotive industry and aligns with the country’s “Make in India, For the World” vision.
