Hyundai Motor Group is set to make its debut at the World Smart City Expo 2024 (WSCE) by unveiling its forward-thinking smart city vision, “Inspiring Human Progress.” The Group’s exhibit will showcase human-centered solutions designed to seamlessly integrate the key pillars of future cities: Space, Mobility, and Energy.
The WSCE, held annually since 2017 under the sponsorship of Korea’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Ministry of Science and ICT, attracts global companies and innovators working on smart city technologies. Last year, 320 companies from 70 countries participated, and this year’s expo is set to continue that tradition under the theme “Better Life is Here.”
Hyundai Motor Group’s 900-square-meter exhibition hall will feature three zones: ‘Transportation,’ ‘Logistics and Robotics,’ and ‘Energy and Infrastructure.’ Highlights include cutting-edge technologies such as the DICE personal mobility platform, S-A2 next-generation airframe, and the hydrogen-powered City Pod logistics system.
Transportation Innovations
In the ‘Transportation’ zone, Hyundai will present the DICE (Digital Curated Experience) personal mobility platform, which uses artificial intelligence to provide a tailored travel experience. Visitors will also get a close look at the S-A2 airframe, a vertical takeoff and landing air mobility device developed by Hyundai subsidiary Supernal, expected to hit the market by 2028. The SPACE-Mobility public system, designed for accessible transportation, showcases Hyundai’s efforts to create inclusive mobility options for all.
Revolutionizing Logistics and Robotics
The ‘Logistics and Robotics’ zone will feature innovations such as the City Pod, an unmanned logistics mobility device powered by hydrogen energy, and the Parking Robot, designed to maneuver vehicles in tight spaces. Another standout is Easy Swap, a technology allowing modular changes in vehicles for different purposes, transforming a single vehicle into an office, limousine, or camper.
Energy and Infrastructure for Sustainable Cities
In the heart of Hyundai’s exhibit, the ‘Energy and Infrastructure’ zone will highlight the Group’s vision of a future where smart cities harmoniously integrate green spaces and cutting-edge technology. Visitors can explore sustainable solutions centered around a hydrogen-based energy chain, from production to utilization.
Heung-Soo Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Strategy Office at Hyundai Motor Group, emphasized the Group’s broader commitment to urban development: “We strive to innovate continuously to enhance life quality across various aspects of our cities. We will continue to leverage our Group-wide capabilities to realize sustainable smart cities that inspire human progress.”
As part of their strategic push toward software-driven mobility, Hyundai aims to develop an interconnected urban ecosystem that merges mobility, logistics, and energy infrastructure into a seamless, efficient smart city experience. The company’s manifesto film, also showcased at the expo, illustrates this vision by focusing on the everyday lives of people rather than technology alone, painting a warm and desirable picture of future urban life.
