PM Modi Urges Auto Industry To Lead India’s Clean Mobility Revolution

At the 64th Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the crucial role of the Indian automobile industry in setting an example for sustainable growth. In a written address to the convention, PM Modi highlighted the sector’s importance in driving India’s economic growth while promoting cleaner, greener mobility solutions.

Titled “Sustainable Mobility Journey towards Viksit Bharat,” the convention saw discussions among prominent leaders and policymakers about the industry’s contribution to achieving India’s vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. PM Modi underscored the need for rapid yet sustainable progress, urging the auto industry to lead the way in creating a cleaner future.

Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, serving as the event’s chief guest, reiterated the government’s dedication to advancing sustainable transportation. He emphasized the vital role of the automotive sector in driving India’s progress toward a $5 trillion economy and becoming the world’s third-largest economy. Gadkari highlighted the nation’s ambition to establish itself as the leading auto manufacturing hub worldwide, noting that achieving carbon neutrality by 2070 will require both innovation and a strong emphasis on sustainability in the industry.

H D Kumaraswamy, Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, praised India’s strides toward electric mobility, supported by initiatives such as “Make in India.” He emphasized that government policies are focused on fostering industrial growth in line with sustainability goals.

Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM and Managing Director & CEO of Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd., spoke about the industry’s contributions, noting, “The automobile sector contributes 6.8% to India’s GDP, with a turnover of ₹20 lakh crore. SIAM is committed to driving decarbonisation, safety, and cleaner mobility, with programs like FAME boosting EV adoption.”

Shailesh Chandra, Vice President of SIAM and Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., emphasized the industry’s alignment with the government’s sustainable mobility vision, urging collaborative efforts to achieve net carbon-zero transportation solutions in the future.

The convention reaffirmed the Indian auto sector’s pivotal role in shaping a sustainable and prosperous future for the nation.
