The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India, has announced the successful bidder under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage. Reliance Industries Limited has been awarded 10 GWh ACC capacity under the scheme, based on the Quality & Cost Based Selection (QCBS) mechanism. This move represents a significant step in boosting domestic manufacturing capabilities, reducing dependence on imports, and positioning India as a leader in ACC battery production.

The PLI ACC scheme, first approved by the Indian Cabinet in May 2021, aims to achieve 50 GWh of ACC manufacturing capacity with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 18,100 crore. The re-bidding process for the 10 GWh capacity was launched in January 2024, with a maximum budget of Rs. 3,620 crore. A total of seven bidders, including leading companies like ACME Cleantech Solutions and Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, submitted proposals for a cumulative capacity of 70 GWh.

Following a rigorous evaluation, six companies were shortlisted for financial assessment, with Reliance Industries emerging as the top-ranked bidder. The remaining shortlisted bidders, including ACME Cleantech Solutions and Waaree Energies, have been placed on a waiting list.

The PLI ACC scheme is a crucial component of India’s National Programme on ACC Battery Storage, which seeks to enhance the country’s battery manufacturing capacity and foster a self-reliant, sustainable future. The success of the scheme demonstrates the industry’s confidence in India’s potential as a world-class manufacturing hub.
