Epsilon Carbon Pvt. Ltd., a prominent global player in the carbon black industry, has announced a major step towards sustainability by incorporating a fleet of electric trucks into its logistics operations. This move highlights Epsilon Carbon’s dedication to environmental stewardship and sets a new standard for the industry.

The company has introduced a fleet of five electric trucks, marking a significant milestone in its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and enhance the sustainability of its logistics operations. Epsilon Carbon initially launched an electric truck last year, which transported over 29,000 metric tons of coal tar—accounting for 16% of its annual major raw material requirement—and reduced CO₂ emissions by 25.4 metric tons. With the addition of four more electric trucks, Epsilon Carbon anticipates a reduction of approximately 127 metric tons of CO₂ emissions.

Vikram Handa, Managing Director of Epsilon Carbon, commented on the initiative, stating, “India’s road logistics industry is crucial to the economy, handling 70% of domestic freight. As leaders in the chemical industry, we are committed to integrating sustainability through electric trucks, demonstrating our proactive approach to minimizing our environmental impact. This initiative supports India’s goal of achieving Net Zero emissions by 2070 and showcases how sustainable practices can be integrated into large-scale industrial operations. Our fully integrated carbon black and specialty carbon facility in Bellary, Karnataka, will be the hub for this initiative.”

The new fleet consists of five heavy-duty trucks, each equipped with a 258 kWh battery offering a range of 185 kilometers, facilitating a smooth transition to electric logistics. This integration aligns with Epsilon Carbon’s broader sustainability objectives, which include reducing its operational carbon footprint and adopting greener technologies, thereby contributing to India’s larger climate action goals.
