The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a €15 million loan to Tuyauto S.A., a Moroccan automotive supplier, to support the construction of a new facility dedicated to e-mobility components. The project, known as the DFF – Automotive Mobility Morocco, aims to strengthen Morocco’s position in the global automotive supply chain by enhancing the production of components for electric vehicles.

The loan will be provided to Tuyauto and on-lent to its wholly-owned subsidiary, Tuyauto New Mobility, for the development of the new industrial facility. The facility will focus on the manufacturing of tubular structures for electric cars through welding and assembly, positioning Tuyauto as a key player in the e-mobility sector. This move will allow Tuyauto to enter the assembly segment of electric vehicle components, catering to various Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs).

The project is expected to have a significant environmental impact, with a Green Economy Transition (GET) ratio of at least 60%. This means that a large portion of the capital expenditure for the new facility will be dedicated to green e-mobility components, aligning with the EBRD’s commitment to promoting sustainable and green investments in the region. The new production facility is also set to obtain EDGE certification, a global standard for resource-efficient and sustainable building practices.

In addition to financial support, the EBRD will assist Tuyauto in obtaining a green building certificate and conducting an energy audit to enhance the facility’s sustainability. The bank’s involvement will also help Tuyauto establish high corporate standards in environmental management, quality systems, occupational health and safety, and supplier management.

Environmental and social due diligence conducted by the EBRD indicates that Tuyauto has the capacity to meet the bank’s performance requirements. The company has already implemented a comprehensive Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) and will continue to develop and enforce robust environmental and social management practices for the new facility.

The project is part of the European Fund for Sustainable Development’s (EFSD) Municipal Infrastructure and Industrial Resilience (MIIR) Guarantee Programme, which aims to support sustainable investments in green infrastructure and technology in the European Neighbourhood South and East.

The new facility is expected to enhance Tuyauto’s competitiveness and integrate it further into export-oriented value chains, promoting economic growth and job creation in Morocco. By focusing on e-mobility, the project aligns with global trends towards sustainability and cleaner energy, making a significant contribution to Morocco’s green economy transition.
