The Red Bull Ring in Spielberg set the stage for the grand unveiling of the 2024 BMW M Award winner’s car, a highly coveted prize in the world of MotoGP. In a spectacular presentation, BMW M GmbH revealed the all-new BMW M5, the groundbreaking, electrified high-performance sedan that will be awarded to the fastest qualifier at the end of the MotoGP season.

Unveiled by Dan Rossomondo, Chief Commercial Officer at MotoGP rights holder Dorna Sports, and Axel Mittler, Marketing Manager MotoGP at BMW M GmbH, the new BMW M5 represents the pinnacle of BMW’s electrified performance engineering. Powered by the M HYBRID system, the latest BMW M5 delivers an astounding 727 hp and 1,000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.5 seconds. The seventh-generation M5’s debut adds a historic twist to its 40-year legacy by incorporating an electrified drive system for the first time.

“We are eager to see who will be the proud owner of the new BMW M5 this year,” said Rossomondo. “It is full of groundbreaking technology, which perfectly embodies what MotoGP stands for: performance, passion, and innovation.”

MotoGP riders Aleix Espargaró and Raúl Fernández were given a special preview of the M5, experiencing laps around the Red Bull Ring in the electrified powerhouse.

Since 2003, the BMW M Award has honored the MotoGP rider with the best qualifying performance throughout the season. The record for most awards is held by Marc Márquez, with seven consecutive victories, followed by current champion Francesco Bagnaia.
