In a groundbreaking partnership aimed at driving zero-emissions mobility in India, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. (TPEML), the leader in passenger electric vehicles, has teamed up with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), a prominent player in the renewable energy sector. This strategic collaboration aims to offer a combined solution of Electric Vehicles (EVs) and Solar Rooftop Systems, significantly enhancing the push towards a net-zero emissions future.
Through this initiative, TPEML will enable its customers to install solar rooftop systems provided by TPREL. Both companies will also actively promote EVs, EV Charging, and Solar Rooftop Systems, aiming to raise awareness about the myriad benefits of these integrated solutions.
EVs, which produce zero tailpipe emissions, and solar power systems, which generate emissions-free electricity, are pivotal to India’s net-zero emissions goals. The Government of India’s recent PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, which aims to subsidize solar rooftop installations for 1 crore households, underscores this commitment.
The collaboration promises multiple benefits for customers, including reducing the total cost of ownership for EVs, lowering electricity bills for EV owners, accelerating the payback period for solar rooftop owners who purchase EVs, and providing 100% emissions-free power for EVs. Additionally, this integrated approach decouples the well-to-wheel emissions of EVs from the grid mix, offering a faster path towards net-zero emissions in the transportation sector.
Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., emphasized the significance of this collaboration, stating, “India’s net zero journey can only be achieved by switching to EVs and renewable power. We see significant synergies between the customers of EVs and solar rooftop systems. Over 90% of EV customers use home charging, and nearly 30% of our EV owners are already using Solar Rooftop Systems. Combining forces with Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd., we intend to democratize zero-emissions mobility and decouple EVs from the grid, while reducing running costs for customers.”
Dr. Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD of Tata Power, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the complementary nature of solar rooftops and EVs. “Both solutions appeal to the same set of eco-friendly and value-conscious customers. We are excited to collaborate with Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd. to drive greater adoption of Rooftop Systems and EVs and provide discerning customers with an opportunity to contribute to reducing emissions while saving money.”
Tata Power is leading the solar rooftop sector through its nationwide ‘GharGharSolar, Tata Power ke Sangh’ campaign and aims to promote solar rooftop adoption through its extensive network of over 700 channel partners and retailers across the country. With over 1,00,000 satisfied customers and a significant number of home and public chargers installed nationwide, Tata Power is well-positioned to support this green initiative.
TPREL, through its vast EV charging network of 5,600 public charging points strategically located across India, is playing a crucial role in accelerating the adoption of e-mobility. This collaboration is set to further Tata’s commitment to sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions, paving the way for a greener future.
