Gogoro Inc., a global leader in battery-swapping technology for sustainable urban mobility, has announced its certification to launch its battery swapping system and Smartscooters in Singapore. The company plans to debut its products in partnership with Cycle & Carriage (C&C) in Q4 2024. Additionally, C&C has teamed up with Shell Recharge to introduce battery swapping GoStations at Shell service stations throughout Singapore.
Horace Luke, Gogoro’s founder and CEO, expressed enthusiasm about the certification, stating, “After extensive collaboration with Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) to secure a permit, we are excited to bring our battery swapping platform to Singapore. This certification highlights the safety, intelligence, reliability, and eco-friendliness of Gogoro’s technology.” Luke also noted the success of the ongoing pilot program with C&C and foodpanda, which has paved the way for commercial operations.
Wilfrid Foo, Managing Director of Cycle & Carriage Singapore, highlighted the potential impact of the partnership, saying, “Our collaboration with Gogoro will drive the adoption of battery swapping technology and two-wheel electric vehicles in Singapore. The positive pilot results and feedback from foodpanda riders affirm the viability of this green mobility solution.”
The pilot program, launched in March 2023 in collaboration with foodpanda, has demonstrated the effectiveness of Gogoro’s Smartscooters and battery swapping platform. The pilot, set to conclude in September 2024, has received high satisfaction scores for the scooters’ speed, quiet operation, and minimal vibrations. Battery swaps, completed in under a minute, have been praised for their convenience. On average, riders have traveled approximately 2,200 km per month and performed up to two battery swaps daily.
In addition to the launch announcement, C&C revealed its partnership with Shell Recharge to deploy Gogoro’s battery swapping GoStations at Shell service stations. The first GoStation is expected to be operational by August 2024, with more stations planned over the next two years.
Gogoro will introduce three Smartscooter models by Q4 2024:
- Gogoro SuperSport: A high-performance model with sporty dynamics designed for premium users.
- Gogoro Premium: A stylish, everyday commuter scooter featuring glossy metallic panels and a seat badge.
- Gogoro Viva Mix: A cost-effective option for high-mileage users.
The Gogoro Network, known for its innovative battery swapping technology, currently supports over 600,000 riders in Taiwan with a network of more than 12,500 GoStation racks at over 2,500 locations. The network has facilitated over 600 million battery swaps to date, reducing CO2 emissions by over 1 million tons and contributing to more than 25 percent of last-mile deliveries in Taiwan.
