BYD India Launches EV Innovate-A-Thon to Foster Innovation in Electric Vehicles

BYD India, a subsidiary of the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, has announced the launch of the BYD EV Innovate-A-Thon. This new initiative aims to spark innovation, sustainability, and excellence among engineering students across India.

In collaboration with the Automotive Skill Development Council (ASDC), the BYD EV Innovate-A-Thon seeks to advance skill development and inspire creativity, teamwork, and innovation within the electric vehicle (EV) sector. The program, described as a catalyst for progress, is designed to tap into the potential of student-led innovations to drive forward the future of sustainable transportation.

The competition will unfold in three stages: an initial online quiz, a digital prototype round, and a final physical prototype creation and sales pitch round. The top three teams will be awarded prizes, with the first-place team earning a week-long visit to BYD headquarters in Shenzhen to engage with technology and sustainability experts. Runners-up and the third-place team will also receive cash prizes and trophies.

Rajeev Chauhan, Head of Electric Passenger Vehicles at BYD India, expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, stating, “We are thrilled to launch the BYD EV Innovate-A-Thon in India, a country rich with young innovators. This initiative embodies our commitment to technological innovation and a better life. We aim to foster a collaborative environment where future engineers can tackle the challenges of electric mobility and contribute groundbreaking solutions.”

BYD India, a key player in global EV adoption, offers a range of electric vehicles in India, including the All-New e6, BYD ATTO 3, and BYD SEAL. The company has also established an extensive network of dealerships and service centers nationwide.

F R Singhvi, President of ASDC, remarked, “We are excited to partner in the BYD EV Innovate-A-Thon, which aligns perfectly with our mission to promote innovation and excellence. This initiative will inspire students to embrace innovative thinking and prepare them to contribute to a sustainable future.”

Recently, BYD introduced new variants of the ATTO 3 model in India — Dynamic, Premium, and Superior — to cater to a broader customer base. The company’s ongoing success is reflected in its position within the Top 10 global automotive brands, according to the Kantar BrandZ Most Valuable Global Brands 2024 report, with a brand value surpassing US$10 billion.
