The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved a €9.5 million senior unsecured loan to Petrol d.d. Ljubljana for the development of electric vehicle (EV) recharging infrastructure in Slovenia and Croatia. The loan, with a three-year term, will help fund the installation of 105 EV recharging points as part of Petrol’s commitment to low-carbon transportation.

The project includes 65 recharging points across 20 locations in Slovenia, with 9 sites dedicated to heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), and 40 recharging points at 15 locations in Croatia, with 8 sites for HDVs. This initiative is aligned with the European Union’s Connecting Europe Facility – Transport Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (CEF2 – Transport – AFIF) and aims to establish a Pan-European network of high-capacity recharging points.

Petrol, a leading energy supplier in Slovenia and the South East Europe (SEE) region, will use the EBRD loan to advance its green transition goals. The project is expected to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the transport sector and set the stage for future expansions under the CROSS-E Project.
