The BMW brand delivered 179,557 fully electric vehicles (BEVs) in the first half of 2024, marking a +34.1% increase compared to the same period last year. Overall, BMW brand sales grew by +2.3%, with 1,096,486 units sold, outpacing traditional competitors and gaining substantial market share in Europe. In total, the BMW Group delivered 1,213,359 vehicles across its BMW, MINI, and Rolls-Royce brands in the first six months of the year.
Jochen Goller, member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands, Sales, highlighted the achievement: “In the first six months of the year, we saw double-digit growth of our fully-electric vehicles and models from the upper premium segment. Despite a challenging market environment, we increased sales for the BMW brand in the first half of the year, thanks to our attractive product portfolio. The strong commitment of our BMW Group employees and our robust global retail network have made a significant contribution in this regard.”
Strong Performance Across BMW Models
The upper premium segment models, along with fully-electric vehicles, drove the BMW brand’s growth. The BMW 7 Series saw a +22% sales increase compared to last year. Other models, such as the BMW X1 and the BMW 3 Series, also experienced strong growth. BMW M GmbH, the high-performance division, recorded a +5.1% sales increase, selling 99,517 vehicles, including the newly unveiled M5 high-performance sedan with an electrified drivetrain.
MINI and Rolls-Royce Brand Updates
The MINI brand delivered 114,054 vehicles in the first half of the year, amid a comprehensive model changeover. The introduction of the New MINI Family, including the MINI Cooper, MINI Countryman, and the upcoming MINI Aceman, is expected to boost sales in the second half of the year. Rolls-Royce launched the Cullinan Series II, the brand’s most in-demand model, contributing to the delivery of 2,819 motor cars worldwide in the first half of 2024.
BMW Motorrad and Global Sales Figures
BMW Motorrad, the motorcycle division, handed over 113,072 motorcycles and scooters to customers globally. In regional markets, BMW and MINI sales showed varied results. Europe saw a +2.6% increase, while Germany faced a -3.3% decline. In Asia, sales dropped by -3.6%, with China experiencing a -4.2% decrease. The Americas region saw a +2.1% increase, driven by a +1.5% growth in the USA.
Looking Ahead with Confidence
The BMW Group anticipates a strong second half of 2024, supported by the availability of the BMW 5 Series models, including the new BMW 5 Series Touring and the BMW i5 Touring. The ongoing market launch of the New MINI Family is also expected to contribute positively. The BMW Group’s diverse drivetrain technologies and flexible product portfolio position it well to meet varying customer preferences worldwide.
